Wrestlers Protest: Wrestlers protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar since January 18, 2023 have decided to end the protest. After getting assurance from the government that their grievances would be resolved, they called off their dharna on late night of Friday 20th January.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is being relieved of his post. Anurag Thakur told that an inquiry committee will be formed. It will give its report in 4 weeks. Its members will be announced on Saturday.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia said that the Union Sports Minister listened to our demands and assured proper investigation. I thank them and we hope that there will be a fair investigation, so we are withdrawing the protest. Wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Banjrag Punia, Sakshi Malik and Ravi Dahiya, among others, decided to end their sit-in after the second round of talks with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur resolved the impasse. The wrestlers had made allegations of sexual harassment and corruption against the Wrestling Federation of India and its president.
