TS Singh Deo: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed cabinet minister TS Singh Deo i.e. Tribhuvaneshwar Sharan Singh Deo as the Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. He is counted among the veteran Congressmen in Chhattisgarh. He is the Maharaj of Surguja. This is the reason why Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has also congratulated him by calling him Maharaj.
TS Singh Deo said that everyone will contest the elections together. Assembly elections are to be held in Chhattisgarh by December this year. Before this, it is being considered as a big bet of the Congress.
Stepped into politics at the age of 31
TS Singh Deo entered politics at the age of 31 through the municipal elections from Ambikapur. It is about 1983. However, his father Madaneshwar Sharan Singh Dev was not happy with his move. His father had written him a long letter dissuading him from joining politics. He believed that his son should concentrate on managing the family’s wealth instead of getting involved in the ups and downs of politics.
Although the letter could not stop him from joining politics. He took over as the leader of the opposition of the demoralized Congress party after the 2013 assembly elections. The Congress had lost three consecutive assembly elections to the BJP. Dev’s grandfather Maharaja Ramanuj Sharan Singh Dev was the last ruler of the princely state of Surguja and signed the accession to the Indian Union on 1 January 1948.
We are ready.
Congratulations and best wishes to Maharaj Saheb for his responsibility as Deputy Chief Minister. @TS_SinghDeo pic.twitter.com/1sRZqsEU2W— Bhupesh Baghel (@bhupeshbaghel) June 28, 2023
Mother was minister twice in Madhya Pradesh
Singh Deo’s mother Devendrakumari Singh Deo was a minister twice in undivided Madhya Pradesh. His father retired as Chief Secretary of undivided Madhya Pradesh. The family sent him to the Scindia School in Gwalior, which is reserved for the descendants of the royal family. Dev studied history at the Hindu College of Delhi University and returned to Bhopal to do his MA from Hamidia College.
While Baghel is aggressive, Dev is soft-spoken.
Bhupesh Baghel and Singh Deo are known for their different working styles. Jahan Singh Dev is gentle, soft-spoken. At the same time, Baghel’s image is as an aggressive leader. When Singh Deo wanted to take up the post of Leader of the Opposition, Shabghel fully supported him. In return, Dev lobbied Mr. Baghel for the post of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress President.
Singh Dev made the manifesto in 2018
Prior to the 2018 assembly elections, Singh Deo played the important role of chairing the manifesto committee. He is also credited with raising funds for the cash-strapped state unit. It was the first time that the badly divided Chhattisgarh Congress stood united with Mr. Baghel and Dev.
