West Bengal: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee and Kuntal Ghosh got a big jolt in the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam. Justice Amrita Sinha of Calcutta High Court rejected the application of Abhishek and Kuntal. Along with this, a fine of Rs 25 lakh each has also been imposed on both of them for wasting the time of the court. Advocate Firdous Shamim said that now there is no hindrance in the investigation process. ED and CBI can inquire.

Please inform that Abhishek Banerjee is the National General Secretary of TMC. At the same time, Kuntal Ghosh has been expelled from the party. It was Kuntal Ghosh who had named Abhishek Banerjee in this scam. Later, he said that he was pressurized by the central agencies to take the name.

Earlier on April 13, the Calcutta High Court had ordered that ED and CBI can interrogate Abhishek Banerjee if needed. The High Court had also directed the Bengal Police not to register any FIR against the CBI and ED officers probing the case.

Abhishek Banerjee went to Supreme Court against CBI summons

In April, the CBI had issued summons for questioning to Abhishek Banerjee in the teacher recruitment scam. But Abhishek Banerjee had gone to the Supreme Court. A bench of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala had stayed both the orders.

What is teacher recruitment scam?

In 2014, the West Bengal School Service Commission took out the recruitment of teachers in government schools. Partha Chatterjee was the education minister at that time. The recruitment process started in 2016. When there were complaints of many irregularities in this matter, the matter reached the High Court.

The CBI filed the first charge sheet on 30 September. It contained the names of 16 people, including former education minister Partha Chatterjee. The ED arrested Partha Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukherjee. Partha Chatterjee is in jail since 23 July 2022.
