Wellington Fire: At least 10 people were killed in a fire that broke out at a four-storey hostel in Wellington on Tuesday, the New Zealand Herald reported. Search and rescue teams have begun combing the smoldering wreckage of the Wellington Hostel.

Prime Minister Chris Hipkins told the AM Morning News program that six people had been confirmed killed, but the death toll could be higher. It is being told that emergency services were called at around 12.30 am after the fire was reported on the third floor of the four-storey Loafers Lodge hostel.

Big claim of Fire and Emergency District Manager

Authorities confirmed this morning that there were no sprinklers in the building and that 20 people were still missing, reports the New Zealand Herald. Wellington Fire and Emergency District Manager Nick Pyatt said 52 people had died at the Loafers Lodge hostel in Wellington.
