Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Sunday arrested former Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni amid an ongoing drive against corruption on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Sony has a case of disproportionate assets between 2016 and 2022.
Rs 7.96 crore spent in excess of known sources of income
An official spokesperson of VB said that FIR no. 20, dated 9/7/2023, after investigation, a case was registered against OP Soni u/s 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Police Station VB, Amritsar Range. Its orders were given on 10 October 2022. Investigation found that accused OP Soni had spent Rs 7.96 crore more than his known sources of income.
Properties made in the name of wife and son
The spokesperson said that the income of the former deputy CM and his family during the period from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2022 was Rs 4,52,18,771 while the expenditure was Rs 12,48,42,692. This was Rs 7,96,23,921 (176.08 per cent) more than his known sources of income. He told that during this time accused OP Soni created properties in the name of his wife Suman Soni and son Raghav Soni. The spokesperson said that further investigation is on in the matter.
