Ujjwala Yojana: The Modi government has given a big relief to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a subsidy of Rs 200 per LPG cylinder. That is, now a subsidy of Rs 200 will be given on the refill of 14.2 kg gas cylinder for one year. 12 gas cylinders can be taken in a year.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said that this would provide relief to 9.59 crore beneficiaries. The minister said that this would entail a total expenditure of Rs 6,100 crore in 2022-23 and Rs 7,680 crore for 2023-24. The subsidy will come directly into the account.

Our goal is to provide relief from inflation

Anurag Thakur said that public sector oil marketing companies Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) are already providing this subsidy from May 22, 2022.

He said that there has been a sharp increase in the international prices of LPG due to various reasons. Hence it is important to protect PMUY beneficiaries from high LPG prices.

LPG consumption increased

The average LPG consumption of PMUY consumers has increased by 20 per cent from 3.01 refills in 2019-20 to 3.68 in 2021-22.

Explain that the government had launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in May 2016 to provide free LPG connections.
