There were allegations against 13 accused
According to news agency ANI, ten of the 13 accused in the case have been convicted by the Seraikela court in Jharkhand. According to a media report, the prosecution lawyer Altaf Hussain said that two of the accused were acquitted by the court, while one died during the trial.

He told that ten accused including the main accused Prakash Mandal alias Pappu Mandal have been convicted by the court. Public prosecutor Ashok Kumar Rai said that though charges were framed under section 302 (murder) as well, the court convicted him only for culpable homicide.

As per the information, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the incident. Two policemen were also suspended for negligence in this matter. While Prakash Mandal alias Pappu Mandal, Kamal Mahto, Sunamo Pradhan, Premchand Mahli, Sumant Mahto, Madan Nayak, Chamu Nayak, Mahesh Mahli, Kunal Mahli, Satyanarayan Nayak, Bhim Sen Mandal, Vikram Mandal and Atul Mahli were arrested in the case. .

Tabrez Ansari, 24, was reportedly beaten to death on the intervening night of June 17-18, 2019, at a house in Dhatkidih village, allegedly on charges of theft. On June 18, the villagers handed him over to the police. The police sent him to jail. After this, on the morning of 22 June, Tabrez died during treatment.
Tabrez’s wife had filed the case
Following the incident, Tabrez’s wife Sahista Parveen filed a murder case against Prakash Mandal and other unknown persons. During the investigation, the police had added the names of 12 other accused. During investigation, the police dropped murder charges against all the accused in the lynching case of Tabrez Ansari in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharsawan as the cause of his death was cardiac arrest in the final post-mortem report.
Police changed the section during deliberations
As per reports, Tabrez Ansari died of cardiac arrest. The police has filed a charge sheet in the court, recommending initiation of trial in the case under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) instead of the earlier section 302 (murder).
