Russia Ukraine War: Amidst the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine for 15 months, Moscow has claimed that its troops have captured the city of Bakhmut in Ukraine. Russian news agencies reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the soldiers on the capture of Bakhmut and said that those who distinguished themselves would be rewarded.
From the Russian side it was reported that their troops finally captured the city of Bakhmut and forced the Ukrainians out of the city. Bakhmut was reported to have been completely taken. On the other hand, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said after the Russian claim that it is absolutely false.
Military spokesman said – the situation is serious, we are fighting
Maliar acknowledged that the situation in Bakhmut was critical, but that Ukrainian troops were still holding defenses in the western district of Bakhmut. Ukrainian military spokesman Serhiy Cherevaty told Reuters: “It is not true. Our units are fighting in Bakhmut.”
Bakhmut, known in Russia as Artyomovsk, is located in the northwestern part of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and serves as an important supply center for the Ukrainian military in Donbass. Russian news agency TASS reported that the Russian Defense Ministry also announced that the city of Artyomovsk (named Bakhmut in Ukraine) was completely liberated during the special military operation in Ukraine.
