New Delhi: Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco defender Ashraf Hakimi have been accused of rape. French prosecutors told AFP on Friday that Hakimi had been questioned in connection with the allegations of a 24-year-old woman. Hakimi is alleged to have raped her at her home in Paris on 25 February. However, the player’s lawyer has said that Hakimi has been the victim of an attempted fraud. The Nanterre prosecutor’s office said Friday that Hakimi has been placed under police supervision and has been banned from contacting the victim.

Hakimi denied all the allegations

According to his lawyer, Fanny Collin, Hakimi has denied all the allegations. He has also welcomed the investigation. PSG said in a statement on Thursday: “The club supports the player, who strongly denies the allegations. He trusts the justice system.” However, the club said that “Paris Saint-Germain is an institution that promotes respect on and off the pitch.”

Hakimi was the star of the Moroccan team

PSG manager Christophe Gaultier declined to comment on the investigation at a press conference on Friday. The Ligue 1 side will face Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League last-16, with Hakimi expected to play after recovering from a hamstring injury. The Madrid-born player was a key part of Morocco’s squad at last year’s World Cup semi-final in Qatar. On Monday, Hakimi appeared at FIFA’s Best Awards ceremony in Paris, where he was named in the FIFPro Men’s World Team of the Year. According to multiple reports, his wife Hiba Abouk has decided to file for divorce.
