New Delhi: PM Modi has met the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Hiroshima, Japan. This is the first time between the war with Russia that the heads of the two countries have met. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was also present during the meeting. Powerful leaders of the world including India, America have arrived here for the G7 summit. Earlier, there was a phone conversation between PM Modi and Zelensky several times.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Modi held bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida, French President Emmanuel Macron and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The meeting between Modi and Zelensky was scheduled after a series of consultations between senior diplomats from India and Ukraine.
Ukraine war a big issue for the world
During a conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky, PM Modi said that the Ukraine war is a big issue for the world. The effect of this war is on the whole world. I do not consider it just an issue but for me it is an issue of economy, politics and humanity. India and I will do whatever we can to resolve the war.
PM Modi is on a three country tour
This was the first face-to-face meeting between PM Modi and Zelensky after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February last year. PM Modi arrived in Hiroshima on Friday to attend the annual summit of the G7 group in the first leg of his three-nation tour. The Ukrainian president is also attending the G7 summit following an invitation from Japan, the current chair of the powerful grouping.
Significantly, in the month of April last year, Russia had attacked Ukraine, giving the name of a special military operation. After the Russian attack on Ukraine, PM Modi and Zelensky had several phone conversations. On the phone, the President of Ukraine appealed to PM Modi to stop the war.
