PM Ways in A: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a three-day visit to the US, led the 9th International Day of Yoga program at the United Nations General Assembly headquarters on Wednesday. First of all, PM Modi also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in the lawn.
Led by PM Modi, President of the 77th UN General Assembly Saba Korosi, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, award-winning storyteller Jay Shetty, Indian chef and restaurateur Vikas Khanna and Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej performed various yoga asanas. People from more than 180 countries participated in PM’s Yoga Day programme.

PM Modi gave mantra to eat Millets
PM Modi said that it was here, about nine years ago, that the United Nations had the honor of proposing to celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day. I am pleased to see all of you and thank you all for being here. I am told that almost every nationality is represented here today. Yoga means to join so you are coming together it is an expression of another form of yoga.
PM Modi said that last year, the whole world came together to support India’s proposal to observe 2023 as the International Year of Millets. Millet is a superfood. They promote overall health and are also good for the environment. Yoga comes from India. Like all ancient Indian traditions, it is also alive and dynamic. Yoga is a way of life. It is a way of being careful in thoughts and actions. It is a way of living in harmony with oneself, with others and with nature.

What did the foreigners say?
- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that yoga unites people, revealing common humanity. It shows that we are one despite our differences.
- UNGA President Saba Korosi said that yoga transforms our physical performance but it can awaken different mental and intellectual performance in us. I have been a fan of yoga. Our world needs balance and self-control. Yoga is one of the ways to achieve this.
- New York Mayor Eric Adams said that we practice yoga but we implement what we get from yoga in our lives. I believe this is the message the Prime Minister is bringing.
