SCO-CHS Council Meet: The 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of State (CHS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be held in India on July 4. This will be through video conferencing. Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif will participate in it. This was announced by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry on Friday. PM Narendra Modi had invited Shehbaz Sharif. Chinese President Xi Jinping will also attend it.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said, ‘In the meeting of the Council of SCO Heads of State, the leaders will discuss important global and regional issues. At the same time, SCO will decide the future direction of cooperation among the member countries. Iran will also be welcomed as a new member of the organization this year at the SCO CHS meeting.
The Pakistan Foreign Ministry said the Prime Minister’s participation in the CHS shows the importance Pakistan attaches to the SCO, an important forum for regional security and prosperity. As per SCO tradition, Turkmenistan has also been invited as the guest of the chairmanship.

What is SCO?
SCO is an influential economic and security organization. It was formed in 2001 as a summit in Shanghai, China. India and Pakistan became its permanent members in 2017. India will assume the presidency of the SCO in 2022, a significant milestone in the country’s role in regional cooperation and its effort to advocate for a unified neighbourhood. India has hosted a total of 134 meetings and events, including 14 ministerial-level meetings.
