Rawalpindi: Shadab Khan, the vice-captain of Pakistan’s limited overs team, has been named captain for the T20I series against Afghanistan. While players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf have been rested. However, Shadab Khan made such a disclosure on Sunday, which has once again started the discussion about Pakistan cricket.
Shadab said that Babar Azam was not aware of being rested from the T20 series. Talking to the media after the 29th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL 2023) in Rawalpindi, Shadab Khan said that he asked Babar about the report, but he too had no idea about it. In fact, before the PCB’s press conference on Monday, the news had come to the fore that some players including Babar-Rizwan could be rested due to workload management. It was also revealed that Shaheen Afridi may be given the task of leading the team. Although they have also been given rest.

Talked on the phone with Shaheen Afridi
Earlier on Sunday, Pakistani media reported that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee chairman Najam Sethi contacted Shaheen Afridi over telephone and offered him the captaincy, to which he reportedly agreed. On the same day during the press conference, a journalist asked Shadab Khan that there are reports that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are being rested for the series against Afghanistan and Shaheen Shah Afridi is being made the captain. On this, Shadab on the contrary asked the journalist whether he too was being given rest.

If there was such a thing, we would have been told
He had said that I am hearing from you whether Rizwan, Babar or I are being rested in the series against Afghanistan, if there was such a thing, we would have been told. Shadab further said that he asked Babar Azam, he also does not know anything, if there was anything like this we would have been told, but no one contacted us in this regard. After Shadab’s statement came to the fore, the discussion of cooking ‘cricket ki khichdi’ has started once again in Pakistan. The three T20 matches against Afghanistan will be held in Sharjah on March 24, 26 and 27.
