Opposition Meet In Patna: Leaders of opposition parties across the country are meeting in Patna today to chalk out a strategy to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting is being hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav.

Discussions are on to chalk out a joint strategy to take on the BJP in the next year’s Lok Sabha elections. More than 15 opposition parties are participating in the meeting. The opposition is said to have chosen Patna for the meeting because the city represents Jayaprakash Narayan’s call for a total revolution in 1974 that toppled Indira Gandhi’s majority government.

These leaders reached Patna before the meeting

Leaders who reached Patna ahead of the meeting include West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti. The meeting has been called by Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar and will be attended by leaders of opposition parties to the BJP.

On reaching Patna, Mamata Banerjee met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch and former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav and his son and state Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav.

What did Mamta Banerjee say after the meeting?

Mamta Banerjee said that it was wonderful to meet Lalu Prasad Yadav. He is a senior leader. Unfortunately, he was imprisoned for so many days and then hospitalized for a long time. Nice to see them. I cannot share the details of the meeting right now. All I can say is that we have come here to fight collectively like a family.

After meeting the RJD supremo, Mamta Banerjee met Nitish Kumar at Patna Circuit House. Kejriwal and Mann also met Nitish Kumar.

BJP taunted about the meeting

Taking a jibe at the opposition over the mega meeting, former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi said all opposition leaders accused of corruption have come together fearing arrest when Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns for a third term after the Lok Sabha next year. He said that the RJD which does not have a single seat in the Lok Sabha is challenging the party which has 303 seats.
