ODI World Cup 2023: Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Ravichandran Ashwin should be a contender for a place in India’s playing 11 before the 2023 World Cup. Although he also believes that this should happen only when Ashwin plans to attack instead of defensive and make some changes in his bowling.
Ashwin out of ODIs for a long time
Please tell that Ashwin is currently not visible in India’s ODI plan. The off-spinner has not been selected in the Men in Blue’s 17-man squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies. He has not been playing ODI cricket for India for a long time, so his comeback seems difficult.
Sanjay Manjrekar said this
During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo ‘run order’, Manjrekar was not too sure about Ashwin’s place in India’s 50-over squad in the World Cup to add depth to the batting. He said about this that “If Ashwin is bowling to get you wickets, then yes, maybe. But we have seen him bowling in white-ball cricket, but that hasn’t really happened. Although it has improved a lot, but it is not like Chahal, who will get you wickets all the time.
ODI record of Ravichandran Ashwin
Ashwin has taken 151 wickets in the 113 ODIs he has played at an impressive economy rate of 4.94. However, the Tamil Nadu spinner has played only two ODIs since 2017, taking one wicket and conceding runs at an average of 6.05 per over.
