The Congress leader said on Saturday that 50 years ago, Indira Gandhi started Project Tiger in Corbett. Then there were 9 tiger reserves, today there are 53.

50 years ago, ‘Project Tiger’ was launched by Smt. Indira Gandhi for habitat conservation of the Tiger.
This landmark initiative ensured a viable tiger population for economic, scientific, cultural & ecological values.

PM Modi will start mega event
Let us tell you that the Tiger Project was started in the country in 1973. While the Elephant Project was launched in the year 1992. The Forest and Environment Ministry is preparing to organize a program in April to mark the completion of 50 years of Project Tiger and 30 years of Project Elephant.
In this connection, on April 9, PM Narendra Modi will visit Bandipur Tiger Reserve during the election tour of Karnataka. PM will inaugurate the mega event to be organized in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts to mark the completion of 50 years of Project Tiger.
