Meghalaya: No party has been able to touch the majority mark in the assembly elections held in Meghalaya. However, the National People’s Party (NPP) emerged as the single largest party by winning 26 seats.
On Friday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma submitted his resignation to Governor Fagu Chauhan. Also presented the claim to form a new government with the BJP.

Sangma going to become CM for the second time
Konrad Sangma is going to become the Chief Minister for the second time in a row. After resigning on Friday, Sangma wrote on Twitter, ‘Resignation from the post of Chief Minister of Meghalaya was handed over to Governor Fagu Chauhan. Also staked claim to form a new government. We have 32 MLAs including NPP-BJP and HSPDP and two independents.

Congress reduced from 21 to 5 seats
In fact, elections were held for 59 seats in Meghalaya on February 27 and the results came on March 2. There was 85.27 percent voting here. In one seat, Sohyeong, elections were not held due to the death of UDP candidate HDR Lyngdoh.
This time NPP fielded candidates for 57, Congress and BJP for 60 each and TMC for 56 seats.
Congress had won 21 seats in the last election i.e. 2018. But this time it was reduced to just 5 seats. Then BJP got only two seats. In this election also, his figure is only two.
NPP got 19 seats, this time the party won 26 seats. The NPP then formed the government in alliance with the BJP, PDF and HSPDP. This time also the same parties are with Sangma.

AAP leader Alka Lamba attacks Mamta Banerjee
AAP leader Alka Lamba has attacked Trinamool Congress President and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over Meghalaya elections. He has accused Mamta of helping the BJP by tweeting. He wrote, ‘Kaagaz ki Didi did not work anywhere outside Bengal. By luring Rajya Sabha and power in Goa, Assam, Meghalaya, the Congress leaders not only broke them and also appeared to be successful in directly benefiting the BJP. But didi got slapped by Babaji. There was a crushing defeat from the Congress in the Bengal by-elections.
