Manipur Violence: The state government has taken strict steps on Thursday evening to stop the violence in Manipur. The governor has issued instructions to shoot at sight rioters in all the violence-hit areas of the state. The State Government had submitted this proposal to the Governor. To which the Lieutenant Governor has given his approval on Thursday evening.
Section 144 applicable in violence-hit areas
Earlier in the day, Section 144 was imposed in violence-hit areas of Manipur. After which the crowd in these areas is prohibited from gathering at one place. Apart from this, internet has been closed in these areas for the next five days. In fact, violence started on Wednesday during the tribal agitation in Manipur.
A total of eight districts in the grip of violence
So far eight districts have come under the grip of violence. 34 companies of Assam Rifles and 9 companies of Army have been deployed to maintain law and order in Manipur. The Ministry of Home Affairs from Delhi has also sent five companies of the Rapid Action Force to Manipur. So far around 7500 people have been taken to safer places. In Manipur, curfew has been imposed in Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Jiribam, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal.
