Manipur Violence: Nine people have died while 10 are injured in a fresh incident of violence in Manipur. It has been told that violence broke out in Khamenlok area today i.e. on Wednesday morning in Imphal. East SP Shivkant Singh has told that the people injured in the incident are undergoing treatment. All the dead are men.

East SP Shivkant Singh told that the sound of firing was heard in the area late night. Official sources said the role of suspected terrorists in the killings was being probed. He said that there have been incidents of violence in the last two-three days in the jurisdiction of Imphal East. In view of the prevailing situation, the Manipur government has extended the internet ban in the state till June 15.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a meeting

The Union Home Minister had made a four-day visit to Manipur from May 29 and announced several measures to restore peace in the state. He held meetings with Chief Minister N Biren Singh, leaders of various political parties, civil society, women, tribal groups and senior officials. Shah then announced that a peace committee would be formed in the state.

That’s why ruckus is happening in the state

Violence has been witnessed in Manipur since early May following clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribal Students’ Union (ATSU) to protest the demand for inclusion of the Metai community in the Scheduled Tribe category. The Manipur High Court had asked the state government to consider including the Metai community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.
