Kerala: After an altercation in the train, the passenger set another passenger on fire, the dead body of the family was found on the tracks

Kerala: A passenger, along with his co-traveller, set his family on fire following an altercation in a moving train near Alathur in Kerala’s Kozhikode. Three people, including a child, died in the incident, while eight people were injured. The incident is being reported in D1 coach of Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train at around 10 pm on Sunday night.

According to a tweet by news agency ANI on Sunday morning, bodies of three people, including a child, were found on the railway track 100 meters from where the incident took place. All the three deceased belong to the same family. According to preliminary reports, people may have jumped from the train after the fire incident. The police have started investigating the matter.

Efforts are on to identify the accused

According to railway sources, the search is on for the accused who executed the incident. It is being told that after the incident, the passengers pulled the chain after which the accused managed to escape taking advantage of the slow down of the train. Other passengers informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF) about the incident.

RPF has admitted the scorched people to the hospital. Police said two of the dead have been identified as Taufiq and Rehana. According to an eyewitness, soon after the train stopped on a bridge on the banks of Korapuzha river, a man in his 30s jumped and ran away.

On the other hand, the police have obtained footage of the assailant from the CCTV camera of a nearby house and suspect the incident to be a planned attack. One of the injured told the police that the assailant took out a bottle filled with inflammable substance and sprinkled it on the co-passengers before the accused set it on fire before they could understand anything.
