Kathmandu News: Nepal’s newly elected President Ramchandra Poudel took the oath of office and secrecy on Monday. Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki administered the oath to President Paudel at a special ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire, National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Prasad and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Let us inform that senior leader of Nepali Congress Ramchand Paudel was elected the third President of the country on Thursday by defeating Subas Chandra Nembang of CPN-UML. Paudel got 33 thousand 802 votes while his rival Nembang got 15 thousand 518 votes in the presidential elections.
Who is Ramchandra Paudel?
Ramchandra Paudel is currently the most experienced politician in Nepal. In fact, according to the report of the Press Trust of India (PTI), he has been in politics since the age of 16. Poudel was born on 14 October 1944 in Bahunpokhri in a middle class farmer family. He holds a Master’s degree in Arts with Nepali language as a major subject.
In 1970, he became a founding central member of the Nepali Students Union, the student wing of the Nepali Congress. Poudel was appointed as the Vice President of Nepali Congress Tanhu District. District Committee in 1980, and became General Secretary in 2005, Vice President in 2007 and Acting President of the party in 2015.
