Karnataka Assembly Election 2023: The BJP has released the first list of candidates for the Karnataka Assembly elections late on Tuesday evening. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that on the recommendation of the Central Election Committee, the names of 189 candidates have been announced.
Out of the total candidates, 52 candidates are contesting for the first time. CM Basavaraj Bommai will contest from Shiggaon assembly. In the 2018 assembly elections, CM Bommai had won the Shiggaon seat by getting 49 per cent votes. He defeated Congress candidate Syed Azimpir Khadri. He became MLA for the third consecutive time from 2008.
Former IPS officer Bhaskar Rao recently left AAP and joined BJP. He has been fielded by the BJP on the Chamarajpet seat. BJP General Secretary Arun Singh told that he said that Congress is a victim of factionalism in Karnataka. Whereas JDS is a sinking ship.

These will be VIP seats
CM Bommai has got ticket from his old seat Shiggaon. BS Yeddyurappa’s son Bijayendra has got ticket from Shikaripur seat. Minister B Sriramulu has been fielded from the Bellary Rural seat. BJP national general secretary CT Ravi will contest from Chikkamagaluru.
Most OBC candidates in the list
List of candidates BJP has tried to help OBC class. 32 candidates are from OBC category. There are 30 candidates from SC and 16 from ST. Among these candidates, 9 doctors, retired IAS-IPS, 31 post graduates and 8 women have been given tickets.

Congress has released the list of 166 candidates
Voting is to be held on May 10 for 224 seats in Karnataka. The results will come on 13 May. Election related notification will be issued on 13th April. The last date for filing nominations is April 20.
Congress has announced 166 candidates in two phases here. While Janata Dal (Secular) has released the list of 93 candidates.
