Kamala Harris also congratulated Ajay Banga
Earlier, US Vice President Kamala Harris had also congratulated India-born Ajay Banga on being elected as the President of the World Bank. Appreciating Banga’s past work, Harris tweeted, “Congratulations to Ajay Banga on being elected as the President of the World Bank.
Let us inform that Banga has been elected as the next President of the World Bank on Wednesday. He was nominated for the post by US President Joe Biden in late February. Banga, a finance and development expert, will take up the post on June 2. He was the only contender to replace David Malpass, the former head of the World Bank, whose term ends early next month.
Who is Ajay Banga?
Banga is the co-founder of the Cyber Readiness Institute. He has been a member of the US President’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. He was awarded the Foreign Policy Association Medal in 2012, the Padma Shri Award from the President of India in 2016, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2019 and the Business Council for International Understanding Global Leadership Award and the Distinguished Friend of the Singapore Public Service.
Ajay Banga was born on 10 November 1959 in Pune. Father Harbhajan Singh Banga was a lieutenant general in the Indian Army. Ajay Banga did his schooling from Jalandhar and Shimla. After graduating from Delhi University, he did his MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. In 2016, he has been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
