Italy: A major accident took place in Italy on Friday. 6 people died in a fire in an old age home located in the city of Milan. While 80 people were injured. All have been admitted to the hospital. Officials say the death toll could be much higher. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

According to fire officials, there is an old age home named Casa dei Coniugi in Milan. The fire broke out on the first floor of the southern residential complex of the old age home at around 1.30 am on Friday. Seeing the smoke rising, people informed the fire department about it. The employees of the fire department brought people out while controlling the fire. During this six people were declared dead. Fire city officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Milan’s mayor, Giuseppe Sala, said the fire had been contained. The fire was confined to the building. Two people died due to the fire. The mayor said the fire was quickly doused, but other victims died of smoke suffocation. He said it is a huge loss. It could have been much worse.

Gianluca Chiodini, the head of Lombardy’s emergency service, was quoted as saying that at least 80 people were taken to hospital, two of them in serious condition. 14 had serious but non-life-threatening injuries and about 65 had minor injuries.
