Israeli missile attack on Syria, targeted residential area, 15 killed

New Delhi: Israel launched a missile attack on a residential building in Damascus, Syria. 15 people have died in this attack. There are also reports of injuries to many people. Citing the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, AFP said the Israeli airstrikes hit a residential building in Damascus.

Residential area targeted

The state news agency reported that the Israeli airstrikes targeted a residential building in central Damascus in the early hours of Sunday. The Syrian Defense Ministry said in a statement, at 00:22 the Israeli enemy launched an airstrike from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights, targeting several areas, including residential areas, in Damascus and its surroundings.

10 storey building badly damaged

Posted footage showed a 10-storey building badly damaged during the attack, with its lower floors collapsing. “Sunday’s attack is Israel’s deadliest attack on the Syrian capital,” Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britain-based Observatory, told AFP.

Israel is continuously attacking

For nearly a decade, Israel has been conducting airstrikes against suspected Iranian-sponsored arms transfers and personnel deployments in Syria. Israel has insisted that it will not allow Iran to extend its influence beyond its borders. On 2 January, Israel’s military fired missiles towards the Syrian capital’s international airport, killing two soldiers and wounding two others.
