IIT In Tanzania: The first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) outside India will open in Tanzania. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said that the first IIT campus outside India will come up in Tanzania’s Zanzibar. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for the construction of the campus of IIT Madras in Zanzibar.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday in the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwini. Jaishkar is on a tour of Tanzania.

What did the Ministry of External Affairs say?
“The campus reflects the long-standing friendship between India and Tanzania and is a reminder of India’s focus on better people-to-people ties across Africa,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.
It added that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommends that high-performing Indian universities be encouraged to set up campuses in other countries.
Recognizing the strategic partnership between Tanzania and India, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that the relationship of educational partnership has been formalized by the signing of the document which provides the parties with a framework for the establishment of the proposed campus of IIT Madras in Zanzibar-Tanzania .
Program to be launched in Zanzibar-Tanzania campus in October
According to the information, the program will be launched in this campus in October. In this, 50 students of UG and 20 students of PG will get admission. Explain that Indian students can apply for admission in this campus. Students studying from here should be given IIT Madras degree
