it’s a beautiful feeling
Wummidi Balaji, great-grandson of jeweler Wummidi Bangaru Chetty, said ‘Sengol’ is being remembered after 75 years of independence at the inauguration of the new Parliament. The government is re-presenting the entire incident that happened in 1947. These are very old memories. It is a beautiful feeling for us that our forefathers were a part of history and now we are going to see that event repeating again.
Sengol will visit the head priest of Madurai Adhinam
On May 28, Harihara Desika Swamigal, head priest of the Madurai Adhanam Math in Tamil Nadu, will present Sengol to PM Modi. This is the same Sengol, which was handed over by Mountbatten to the country’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru as a symbol of transfer of power. Harihara Desika is the 293rd head priest of the Swamigal Adhanam Math. Priests from all over the country will conduct prayers in the new Parliament on that day.
