US Religious Freedom Report: India on Tuesday rejected the US State Department’s 2022 report on international religious freedom outright. From India, the US report has been described as flawed, motivated and biased.
Responding to the Report foreign Ministry (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Tuesday that we are aware of the US State Department’s report on international religious freedom. Sadly, such reports continue to be based on misinformation and flawed understanding.
He said that motivated and biased remarks on the part of some US officials undermine the credibility of these reports. Bagchi said that we value our partnership with the US and will continue to have open exchanges on issues of concern to us.

PM Modi’s visit to America next month
Let us inform that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to visit America next month. This religious freedom report has been released ahead of his visit. Explain that the annual report on international religious freedom has been released by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The report has written about the conditions of religious freedom in countries around the world.
Rashad Hussain, ambassador of the International Religious Freedom Office, told a news conference on Monday that several other governments, including Russia, India, China and Saudi Arabia, target members of certain communities within their borders.
BJP mentioned 28 times in the report on India
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been mentioned 28 times in the report released on India regarding religious freedom. The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) was mentioned 24 times and the Bajrang Dal 7 times in the report. The report also mentions the alleged hate speeches given by BJP leaders across the country.

Mohammad Zubair, Bilkis Bano are also mentioned in the report
The names of people like Mohammad Zubair, Bilkis Bano, Umar Khalid also came up in the report. The report details all cases of alleged hate crimes against people from all communities other than minorities only.
The report said that on June 27, police arrested journalist Mohammad Zubair, co-founder of fact-checking website Alt News, for a tweet he posted in 2018 that said the police ‘deliberately insulted Hindus’ Have done.
On 15 August, 11 men convicted of raping Muslim woman Bilkis Bano and killing 14 members of her family in 2002 were released in Gujarat after serving 15 years in prison.
