‘It’s part of conspiracy by political elements’, temple committee on ‘gold scam’ case at Kedarnath temple

gold plating in kedarnath

Kedarnath Dham: The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) rejected allegations of a scam in the work of laying gold inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Kedarnath temple. The committee has termed it as part of a conspiracy by political elements. Citing the huge increase in the number of pilgrims visiting Char Dham, the committee said that petty political elements do not like it. Such elements are spreading rumors to affect the Yatra and malign the image of Kedarnath Dham.

Let us tell you that Santosh Trivedi, senior priest of Kedarnath temple, had questioned the alleged irregularities in the gold plating work. Trivedi, vice-president of the Char Dham Mahapanchayat, alleged a scam of up to Rs 125 crore in the gold plating work of the Kedarnath temple, claiming that instead of gold, brass plating was done.

Santosh Trivedi has demanded a fair investigation

Demanding an impartial probe into the matter, Trivedi also claimed that many people associated with the management of the temple disagreed with the proposal for gold plating as it was against the traditions.

The temple committee denied the allegations in a press note, saying that a donor had expressed his desire to have a gold plate installed on the sanctum sanctorum and the committee approved the proposal, respecting the donor’s sentiments. The gold plating work was done under the supervision of experts from the Archaeological Survey of India.

The donor did the entire work at his own level: Committee

The BKTC also clarified that the entire beautification work of the ‘garbhagriha’ (from buying gold to inlaying the walls) was done by the donor at his own level and the temple committee had no direct role in it. It was told by the committee that in 2005, the sanctum sanctorum of Shri Badrinath temple was also decorated with gold on behalf of the same donor.
