Fighter Jet Engines: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the United States of America came amid a major deal on Thursday. GE Aerospace announced that it has tied up with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to manufacture fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force.

American Aerospace described the agreement as a major milestone. Said that this is an important step in strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries. According to the American aerospace company, the agreement includes the potential joint production of GE Aerospace’s F414 engines in India.

The aircraft engine supplier said it continued to work with the US government to obtain the necessary export authorizations for the deal. It said the effort was part of the Light Combat Aircraft Mk2 program of the Indian Air Force.

The agreement builds on GE Aerospace’s earlier commitment to build 99 engines for the Indian Air Force as part of the LCA Mk2 program.

GE Aerospace working for India since 1986

GE Aerospace began working with the Aeronautical Development Agency and HAL to develop the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) in India in 1986 with the F404 engine. This was followed by work for the LCA Mk1 and LCA Mk1A aircraft. GE said it would continue to cooperate with the Indian government on the AMCA Mk2 engine program.
