DRDO scientist arrested in Pune

Inderjit Singh, Mumbai: A scientist working with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in Pune has been arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on charges of espionage. ATS officials said that on May 3, a DRDO scientist in Pune was found to have been in contact with an agent of a ‘Pakistan Intelligence Operative’ (PIO) while on official duty.

Was in touch with PIO through social media

The accused scientist was in touch with the PIO through social media, through WhatsApp messages, voice calls, videos etc. Officials said that despite being in a responsible position, the DRDO official misused his position to leak sensitive government intelligence. Due to this, the security of the country may feel threatened.

Investigation started after registering a case

Kalachowki Mumbai ATS Police Station has registered a case under Section 1923 of the Official Secrets Act 1923 and other relevant sections. Officials said that further investigation of the matter is being conducted by the officer, who is of the rank of Senior Police Inspector, from the Anti-Terrorism Squad, Pune unit.
