DELHI GOVERNMENT

Delhi Politics: Delhi LG VK Saxena on Wednesday approved CM Arvind Kejriwal’s proposal to allot new portfolios to Kailash Gehlot and Rajkumar Anand. Kejriwal had sent a proposal to allot eight portfolios to Gehlot and 10 to Anand.

This proposal was sent by Kejriwal after Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain resigned from their respective posts in the government. Sisodia was arrested on February 26 in the liquor policy scam case while Satyendar Jain was arrested on May 30 last year in the PMLA case and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Finance department’s responsibility to Gehlot

In a notification from the Delhi government, Gehlot has been given the responsibility of finance, planning, public works department, power, home, urban development, irrigation and flood control and water departments. Apart from this, Gehlot already has many other departments.

Anand has been entrusted with education (previously held by Sisodia), land and buildings, vigilance (also held by Sisodia), services, tourism, arts, culture and language, labour, employment, health and industry.

Meanwhile, following the resignations of Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, Chief Minister Kejriwal has forwarded the names of Aam Aadmi Party MLAs Saurabh Bhardwaj and Atishi to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena for elevation as ministers.

CBI arrested Sisodia on Sunday

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in the Delhi Excise Policy case. Sisodia was being probed in a case related to alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the new excise policy of the Delhi government.

Challenging the arrest, Sisodia had also reached the Supreme Court, but the court refused to consider his petition. Sisodia was sent to five-day CBI custody on Monday by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court.
