Who will be the next boss of Municipal Corporation of Delhi?

Delhi Mayor Election Live: Proceedings are underway for the election to the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). A large number of police forces have been deployed outside the House. Let us tell you that the mayoral election was postponed about three weeks ago after a scuffle between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Be informed that apart from Mayor and Deputy Mayor, elections will also be held for six members of the Standing Committee of the House today.

It is being said that the election of the mayor will begin after the swearing in of the aldermen and newly elected councilors in the House.   • Bobby Kinnar, the first transgender councilor elected from Sultanpuri A-ward, took oath.
  • Ahead of the MCD election proceedings, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed that rules were violated. The party claimed that paramilitary forces entered the Civic Centre.
  • According to the MCD, paramilitary forces have not been deployed in the House. Only civil defense volunteers are present there. Delhi Police personnel have been deployed outside the fourth floor for safety and security reasons. About 100 Civil Defense Volunteers have been deployed here. Women police personnel have also been deployed.
  • The elected councilors will take oath first, followed by the nominated members at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi meeting on Tuesday.
  • AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj has questioned the heavy security arrangements outside the Civic Centre. Sharing a video, he tweeted. The AAP MLA said that today BJP has brought a force with sticks to capture the Municipal Corporation. Have you seen this in any house?
  • The Aam Aadmi Party, which won the MCD polls, has fielded Shelly Oberoi for the mayoral post with 134 seats, while Rekha Gupta, a three-time corporator from Shalimar Bagh, is the BJP candidate.

Seven candidates are in the fray for the six posts of the Standing Committee. The Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Amil Malik, Raminder Kaur, Mohini Jinwal and Sarika Chowdhary, while the BJP has fielded Kamaljit Sehrawat, Gajendra Daral and Pankaj Luthra.

Seven Lok Sabha MPs, three Rajya Sabha MPs and 14 MLAs from Delhi will also take part in the voting among those nominated with the consent of the Delhi Assembly Speaker. Let us tell you that on January 6, there was high drama in the House for more than an hour.

Let us tell you that in the municipal elections held in December last year, AAP got 134 seats in the 250-member house. Apart from the 250 corporators who won the elections held in December, seven Lok Sabha MPs from the BJP, three Rajya Sabha MPs from the AAP and 14 MLAs nominated by the Delhi Assembly Speaker will also contest for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor. Out of 274 voters, AAP has the support of 150 members and BJP has the support of 113 members. The Congress has nine corporators and two others are independents.

What happened in the first meeting of councilors on 6th January?

As soon as the first meeting of the newly elected Municipal Corporation of Delhi House began, councilors of both the parties clashed with each other over the appointment of 10 aldermen by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The MCD House was adjourned before the start of polling for the mayoral election.

After Satya Sharma invited Alderman Manoj Kumar to take oath, AAP MLAs and corporators started protesting. Many people raised slogans and reached the Well of the House, disrupting the proceedings of the House.
