Manipur Violence: Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday appealed for peace by releasing a video message regarding the Manipur violence. This violence has destroyed the lives of people in your state (Manipur) and left thousands of people destitute, he said. This violence has left a deep wound in the conscience of our nation.

Calling the clashes in Manipur a great human tragedy, Sonia Gandhi said it was heart-wrenching to see the people of the state pitted against each other. I am deeply saddened to see that people have been forced to flee from the only place they call home.

Sonia Gandhi said, ‘I express my condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones. Since about 50 we have seen a huge human tragedy in Manipur. The unprecedented violence that has devastated the lives of people in your State and left thousands destitute has deeply wounded the conscience of our nation. It is heartbreaking to see our brothers and sisters who are peacefully co-existing being turned against each other.

Sonia Gandhi said that nurturing the spirit of brotherhood requires tremendous trust and goodwill. One wrong step to fan the flames of hatred and division. Today, we are at an important crossroads. Our choice to follow the path of violence will shape the kind of future that our children will inherit. Sonia Gandhi said, ‘As a mother I understand your pain and I appeal to your good sense to lead the way. It is my sincere hope that in the weeks and months ahead, we embark on a long journey of rebuilding trust and emerge stronger from this test. Sonia Gandhi said that she has a lot of hope and faith in the people of Manipur. I have great hope and faith in the people of Manipur and I know that together we will overcome this difficult test.
