New Delhi: The committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to honor Geeta Press, Gorakhpur with Gandhi Peace Prize 2021. It has been officially announced on Sunday. Now the Congress has opposed this decision of the central government. Senior party leader Jairam Ramesh described it as awarding Savarkar.
According to information, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has criticized the move. The selection of Geeta Press for this award has been termed as a nuisance. He wrote on Twitter that giving the Gandhi Peace Prize 2021 to Gita Press would be like “rewarding Savarkar and Godse”.

He argued that Akshay Mukul, a writer, had written a biography titled ‘Gita Press and the Making of Hindu India’. Ramesh said that this book tells about Mukul’s relationship with Mahatma Gandhi. An official statement said Gita Press is one of the largest publishers in the world, which has published 41.7 crore books in 14 languages, including 16.21 crore Shrimad Bhagavad Gita.
Meanwhile, PM Modi congratulated Geeta Press for the award and appreciated their contribution in the field. PM Modi tweeted, that I congratulate Geeta Press, Gorakhpur on being awarded the Gandhi Peace Prize 2021. He has done commendable work in the last 100 years towards furthering the social and cultural change among the people.

CM Yogi Adityanath also congratulated
Apart from the PM, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also congratulated ‘Gita Press’ Gorakhpur for being awarded the Gandhi Peace Prize 2021. Explain that the Gandhi Peace Prize is an annual award, which is given for outstanding contribution towards political change in the social, economic field through non-violent and other Gandhian methods.

On the other hand, Gita Press, Gorakhpur, one of the world’s largest publishers, has refused to accept the Rs 1 crore cash prize for the Gandhi Peace Prize 2021 amid controversy over being selected for the honour. It has been said on behalf of Geeta Press Gorakhpur that they will only accept citations. He has suggested that the government can spend this amount elsewhere.
