New Delhi: Zaka Ashraf, who is set to become the next chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has said that he was against the hybrid model for the Asia Cup from day one. Ashraf served as the PCB chairman during the previous Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government. He said the hybrid model is a no-win situation for Pakistan.

this is injustice to pakistan

Zaka Ashraf said in Islamabad on Wednesday- “I had already rejected the hybrid model for the Asia Cup. This is injustice to Pakistan. It is not right to organize main matches outside Pakistan. Being the host, the entire event should happen at home.” The PCB’s management committee, headed by Najam Sethi, had proposed a hybrid model for the Asia Cup after India refused to travel to Pakistan.

The tournament will be played from August 31 to September 17

The hybrid model was accepted by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) after a long standoff. According to this model, the first four matches will be played in Pakistan before the tournament moves to Sri Lanka, while Sri Lanka will have nine matches including the final. The tournament will be played from 31 August to 17 September.

Nominated to PCB Board of Governors

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday nominated Zaka Ashraf and Mustafa Ramde to be included in the PCB Board of Governors (BoG). With the nomination of Ashraf and Ramde, the BoG’s 10 members are complete. Apart from Ashraf and Ramde, four representatives each from cricket associations and departments will sit in the BOG. The Chief Election Commissioner will now conduct the elections which are likely to be held later this week. Sethi, who has been appointed as the head of the PCB Management Committee, has confirmed that he is no longer in the running to become the PCB chairman.
