Ashes 2023: England suffered a 43-run defeat against Australia in the second Ashes Test despite English captain Ben Stokes hitting a fine 155. On the fifth day of the match, when England batsman Jonny Bairstow came out of the crease after leaving the ball, he was dismissed by Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
The market of discussions on Bairstow’s wicket is hot. The veterans and fans of Australia and England are making statements against each other regarding this. Also, now newspapers have also started participating in it. The English media accused Australia of destroying the spirit of cricket, but the Australian media did not hold back for long and came back with a proper rebuttal. The headlines in English and Australian newspapers were worth watching.
Newspaper calls Ben Stokes a ‘crybaby’
Australia’s ‘The West Australian’ had the most striking headline among all the papers as it labeled England captain Ben Stokes as a ‘crybabies’ for giving excuses for the spirit of cricket after the defeat.
The front page of the newspaper went viral on the internet and it reached Stokes on Twitter and the England captain reacted sharply. “It’s definitely not me, since I’ve bowled with a new ball,” Stokes wrote, referring to a picture of the new red ball next to him in a newspaper clipping. Stokes, who bowls in the middle overs for England, took a dig at the publication, referring to the fact that he does not bowl with the new ball.
That’s definitely not me, since when did I bowl with the new ball https://t.co/24wI5GzohD
