Ashes 2023: Why didn’t Mitchell Starc get a place in the playing 11 in the first Test match? Australian coach explained the reason

Ashes 2023 ENG vs AUS Mitchell Stark

Ashes 2023: The first Test match was played between England and Australia at Edgbaston. The Kangaroos won the match in a thrilling manner. England had already declared playing 11 for the match. On the other hand, as soon as Australia announced its players, everyone was surprised. In fact, experienced bowler Mitchell Starc was not given a place in the team. Australian coach Andrew McDonald has made a big disclosure on this.

That’s why Stark did not get place

According to the Australian coach, the main reason behind not playing Mitchell Starc was the pitch which was flat. Although he also admitted that he could prove to be effective on this too. The coach said that “it was a decision based on the circumstances. However, looking at the pitch, we still felt that Mitch (Mitchell Starc) could have played a better role in the match, no doubt about it. But there was more scope for line and length than left-arm swing and we didn’t feel we would get swinging conditions there (at Edgbaston).

He further said that ‘it really depends on the consciousness coming from inside at the last stage of team selection, so it can be criticized any way you want. When we went out to play, we felt like we made the best decision with all the information we had.”
