Recently, 27 convicts including Anand Mohan Singh have been released after the Bihar government amended the jail rules. Controversy has arisen regarding the release of Anand Mohan. In this episode, while talking to news agency ANI on Thursday, G Krishnaiah’s wife Uma Devi said that I appeal to the President and PM to intervene in this matter and CM Nitish Kumar to send him (Anand Mohan) back to jail.

Uma Devi said that the decision of the Bihar government to release the murder convict is wrong. He said that Anand Mohan was earlier given death sentence by the lower court and later commuted to life imprisonment by the Patna High Court and now Nitish Kumar’s government has released him. The Chief Minister should not do this. They should not encourage such things.

Uma Devi said that if Anand Mohan Singh contests elections in future, I appeal to the public to boycott him. He said that the public will oppose the release of Anand Mohan along with me, demanding that he be sent back to jail.

IAS officer’s daughter demanded reconsideration

Padma, daughter of the late IAS officer, asked the Bihar government to reconsider its decision. Padma said that it is disappointing for us that Anand Mohan Singh has been released from jail today. The government should reconsider this decision. I request Nitish Kumar to reconsider this decision. With this decision, his government has set a wrong precedent. Padma said the family would appeal against the government’s decision.

Anand Mohan’s supporters welcomed the release

Supporters of Anand Mohan Singh have welcomed his release from Saharsa Jail in Bihar. Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan was earlier on parole for 15 days to attend the engagement ceremony of his MLA son Chetan Anand. He returned to Saharsa jail on April 26 after completion of parole period. Earlier on Wednesday, the state prisons department had released around 14 convicts from various jails in the state.

Anand Mohan Singh was among eight others who could not be released on Wednesday. There has been a strong reaction from the opposition in the state over the release of the former MP from jail. On 5 December 1994, Gopalganj District Magistrate G Krishnaiah was killed in Muzaffarpur by a mob allegedly instigated by Anand Mohan Singh. He was dragged out of his official vehicle and beaten to death.

G Krishnaiah, a 1985 batch IAS officer, was a resident of Mahbubnagar in present-day Telangana. Anand Mohan was sentenced to death by the trial court in 2007. A year later, the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment by the Patna High Court. Mohan then challenged the verdict in the Supreme Court but still got no relief and was in Saharsa Jail since 2007. His wife Lovely Anand is a Lok Sabha MP, while son Chetan Anand is the RJD MLA from Sheohar in Bihar.
