freed the country from the Mughals
Citing the ideals and objectives of ‘Swaraj’ (independence) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Union Home Minister said that he coined the term not to expand his sphere of influence, but to free the country from the Mughals.
Promoted the message of Swaraj
The idea behind Swaraj was not to take the glory of the Maratha Empire across the country. From Cuttack, Gujarat to Bengal, the Mughals ruled supreme everywhere. It was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who freed Gujarat from the Mughals and spread the message of Swaraj. In 1680, Sambhaji Maharaj, Rajaram Bhonsle I, Maharani Tara Bai, Chhatrapati Shahu I and all the Peshwas took forward the ideology of Swaraj.
